The Dover police department has been serving the Town of Dover and the Deerfield Valley region since 1971.

The department at full staff has 5 full-time officers, 2 part-time officers and a full-time office manager. See the  Staff Profiles for information on our personnel.

Being a resort area located in southern Vermont and being home to The Mount Snow SKI Area the department has and will continue to deal with problems of all types and sizes. The area is prone to visitors from all over New England as well as New York and New Jersey who come to enjoy the Green Mountains.

Although the office is manned Monday through Friday 8AM to 4PM the officer-patrol coverage hours are varied to support the needs of the community. The department covers complaints 24 hours 7 days a week. With the help of the Vermont State Police dispatch system.

All of Vermont now has the advantage of the enhanced or E-911 program. This allows the dispatcher to pass vital information to the officer on the road before the call is even completed, so in the sad event that someone is unable to talk in an emergency we are able to have basic information on the caller’s whereabouts.

Patrol, investigations and community service are not the limits of the Dover police department. The department prides itself on being able to handle any type of problem that the community throws at it.

Chief Edwards is an instructor of the Community Policing ideal. Chief Edwards is a hands-on instructor and has taught at theVermont Criminal Justice Training Academy as well the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA.

EMAS is also a project of the department. EMAS stands for Electronic Mail Alerting System. This program would enable the department to send out a blind copy alert in the valley via e-mail. This has been used several times in the past and has proved to be of great value to send out information.

The department has always had, and will continue to have, the gratitude and the support of the town’s community.
